Officials in St. Lawrence County have hired a law firm in anticipation of suing the
St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and the state of New York for $3 million in gaming revenues.
The tribe has been withholding the state's share of casino funds due to an alleged violation of the exclusivity provision of the Class III gaming compact.
"There is a gaming establishment not too far from here and it's our contention that the state's known about it for a while and they didn't protect our interests," Chief Ron LaFrance told YNN.
The county's share is $3 million but the tribe said it can't do anything at this point to address the loss in gaming funds.
