Vote expected on Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Class III compact

The Massachusetts Senate is expected to vote as early as today on a Class III gaming compact for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

The 15-year deal requires the tribe to share 21.5 percent of gross gaming revenues with the state. According to an environmental notice, the casino will generate $511.8 million a year although it's not clear if that figure means only gaming revenues.

The casino itself will cost about $500 million. The notice says construction will create $836.5 million in economic benefits for the state.

The House already approved the compact. The Senate's vote would clear the agreement for Bureau of Indian Affairs review.
