BIA allows Class III compact for Graton Rancheria to go into effect

The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria in California has been cleared to conduct Class III gaming.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs allowed the tribe's compact to go into effect. It was the last major hurdle for the tribe, whose casino journey began after being restored to federal recognition by an act of Congress in 2000.

“It's great to take a minute and savor the fact that it's going to happen,” Lisa Maldonado, a labor leader who supports the tribe, told The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

The tribe has begun construction work on the facility.
