The
Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska plans to open its new gaming facility in December.
The new
Ohiya Casino and Resort is a couple miles from the tribe's existing facility. It includes a 25,000-square-foot casino; a 4,000-square-foot events center; a restaurant, buffet and cafe; a 47-room lodge with two luxury suites; a convenience store and gas station; and an 18-hole golf course and club house, The Yankton Press & Dakotan reported.
The casino will offer about 400 Class II machines. Most forms of Class III gaming are not legal in Nebraska and the state has refused to negotiate a compact.
The tribe broke ground last October. The project was made possible thanks to a $20 million loan from the
Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota
