Mashantucket Tribe notifies union at casino of potential layoffs

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut plans to lay off as many as 77 engineering employees at its casino, according to news reports.

The tribe notified the union that represents the employes of the potential layoffs. "We are continuing to evaluate our staffing in order to maintain strong employment levels and to ensure employees are positioned for success, while also balancing cost savings and productivity," Dale Wolbrink, the public relations manager at Foxwoods Resort Casino, said in a statement, The New London Day reported.

The engineering employees voted to join the Local 30 of the International Union of Operating Engineers. The employees organized under tribal law.
