BIA faces July 6 deadline for Graton Rancheria gaming compact
Tuesday, June 5, 2012
The
Bureau of Indian Affairs
has until July 6 to review a Class III gaming compact for the
Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria
, The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat reports.
The deadline comes amid a lawsuit that seeks to invalidate the compact. A group called the
Stop the Casino 101 Coalition
is suing
Gov. Jerry Brown
(D) in state court.
The deadline also has implications on casino construction. According to news reports, the
National Indian Gaming Commission
says the tribe must break ground between April 15 and October 15.
Station Casinos
, the tribe's partner, wants to start work this summer. But litigation could delay construction.
