The city council in Taunton, Massachusetts, put off a vote on a gaming agreement with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.
The council could have approved the deal at a public meeting last night. But members said they wanted more time after four-plus hours of debate in which concerns were raised by residents.
Under the agreement, the will pay $33 million up front in mitigation costs. The tribe also plans to share about $13 million a year in gaming revenues.
Residents of Taunton will go to the polls on June 9 to say whether they want to host the casino.
