A group called the Stop the Casino 101 Coalition filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking a casino for the Federated Indians of
Graton Rancheria.
The group is suing California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) in state court.
The lawsuit claims he lacked authority to enter into a Class III gaming compact because the tribe's trust land was not properly removed from state jurisdiction.
“The arguments in this lawsuit ignore basic constitutional principles of federal Indian law and have been soundly rejected by the courts,” tribal attorney John Maier told The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat in response.
The tribe's compact is currently being reviewed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
