Eastern Cherokees reject alcohol sales outside of casino

Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians rejected an expansion of liquor sales on the reservation.

Voters rejected three options: a tribal-run liquor store, liquor sales in restaurants and liquor sales in grocery stores. They also approved a referendum that allows local communities to keep liquor sales out.

The vote means liquor will remain only at the Harrah's Cherokee Casino.
