Kickapoo Tribe's court dismisses gaming termination lawsuit

Two former gaming regulators for the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas saw their lawsuit dismissed last week.

Fred Thomas and Nancy Bear were terminated from their positions on the Kickapoo Gaming Commission in July 2008. The filed a lawsuit in tribal court against then-chairman Steve Cadue and two council members.

According to The Hiawatha World, Judge Korey Wahwassuck ruled that Thomas and Bear failed to show that the tribe waived its sovereign immunity. He also said the pair failed to prove they have a "property" right to their positions on the commission, the paper reported.
