A $75 million deal with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is already helping the racetrack industry in Minnesota.
The tribe is pouring money into purses at the Canterbury Park. That's attracted more people to the facility, which has seen a growth in attendance and wagering.
The deal is also helping horse breeders, who are seeing more interest from investors, in addition to bigger purses. "People are extremely optimistic and excited," Cam Casby, a local breeder and owner whose horses won eight races, told The Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The tribe and the track are now able to work together instead of lobbying against each other at the State Capitol.
The deal keeps a non-Indian racino off the table for the near future.
