Santee Sioux Tribe set to open new Class II facility in December

The Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska plans to open its new gaming facility in December.

The new Ohiya Casino and Resort is a couple miles from the tribe's existing facility. It includes a 25,000-square-foot casino; a 4,000-square-foot events center; a restaurant, buffet and cafe; a 47-room lodge with two luxury suites; a convenience store and gas station; and an 18-hole golf course and club house, The Yankton Press & Dakotan reported.

The casino will offer about 400 Class II machines. Most forms of Class III gaming are not legal in Nebraska and the state has refused to negotiate a compact.

The tribe broke ground last October. The project was made possible thanks to a $20 million loan from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota
