The National Indian Gaming Commission is warning San Diego County, California, not to seize gaming revenues owned by the
Santa Ysabel Band of
Mission Indians.
An arbitrator ruled that the tribe owes $3 million to the county under a gaming agreement. The tribe has been unable to pay so the county has been trying to levy the funds.
The NIGC, however, says that could be a violation of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, East County Magazine reported.
The gaming agreement could be voided, the agency said in a letter to the county.
