Sault Ste. Marie Tribe makes restaurants at casinos smoke-free

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians in Michigan has approved a resolution to go smoke-free at three casino restaurants.

The restaurants will go smoke-free on June 15. The casinos themselves will continue to allow smoking.

“We know commercial tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death and disease, and the Sault Tribe and Kewadin Casinos will be taking steps now and in the future to create healthier environments for our employees and our guests,” said Kewadin Casinos COO Tony Goetz, The Sault Ste. Marie Evening News reported.

Michigan law bans smoking in public places but the law doesn't apply in Indian Country. The law exempts commercial casinos in Detroit.
