The Eastern Band of Cherokee
Indians is waiting for the North Carolina House to bless its Class III gaming compact.
The Senate passed the deal last week. It authorizes live card dealers to the Harrah’s
Cherokee Casino and Resort in exchange for a share of the revenues.
An amendment that was signed yesterday also limits the tribe to a maximum of four gaming facilities, including Harrah's Cherokee. The casinos must be located on land acquired in trust prior to 1988, The Smoky Mountain News reported.
