The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is announcing details of its proposed casino in Taunton, Massachusetts, today.
The tribe has options on 135 acres in the city. The land will have to be placed in trust before the casino is built.
The biggest hurdle is the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v.
Salazar. The tribe didn't gain federal recognition until 2007, long after the 1934 cut-off date in the ruling.
The tribe has started Class III compact negotiations with Gov. Deval Patrick (D).
H.3702,
the state's gaming law, sets a July 31 deadline for an agreement.
