A Massachusetts town is drafting a legal opinion on a potential casino by the Aquinnah
Wampanoag Tribe.
The tribe has a reservation in the town of Aquinnah. But the Massachusetts Supreme Court in 2004 ruled that the tribe is subject to local laws.
The town's legal counsel says zoning laws bar gaming. So he is preparing an opinion in response to the tribe's claims about opening a casino on the island of Martha's Vineyard.
On its gaming site, aquinnahgaming.com, the tribe says it has acquired trust land on which it could build a casino.
