The Quapaw Tribe is seeking to place land near its tri-state casino in trust, The Joplin Globe reports.
The tribe filed a land-into-trust application for 177 acres in Kansas. The land is near the Downstream Casino Resort, parts of which are in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
The Cherokee County Commission in Kansas initially opposed the application but voted to withdraw its opposition with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
