Members of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut have entered a new era, one without per capita payments.
For years, tribal members shared in revenues from the Foxwoods Resort Casino. At one point, each reportedly received more than $100,000 a year.
But the payments stopped this month, a sign of the economic troubles facing the tribe.
Gaming revenues are down and the tribe has more than $2 billion in debt.
"Our stress levels are very high up here," elder Loretta Libby told the Associated Press. "I just don't know what's going to happen."
Adding to the woes, the AP said FBI agents have been asking people about the tribe's finances.
