The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma is still trying to open a casino in New Mexico.
The tribe has a 30-acre reservation in the southern part of the state. But the site hasn't been approved for gaming despite years of talks with the federal government.
Chairman Jeff Haozous, however, is optimistic of progress under the Obama administration. And with a new governor in New Mexico, a Class III gaming compact could be negotiated, he said.
The tribe already has a building for the anticipated casino.
