Fitch Ratings has released a new report that looks at off-reservation gaming under the Obama administration.
According to the report, President Barack Obama is more open to off-reservation gaming. “The regulatory headwinds for off-reservation gaming seem to be reversing three years into the Obama administration, albeit at a slow pace,” Fitch said, according to State House News Service.
Last June, the Bureau of Indian Affairs rescinded a guidance memo that was overly restrictive of off-reservation gaming.
Since then, the agency has approved some off-reservation casino projects in California and Michigan but has also rejected others in New Mexico and California.
Fitch anticipates a more favorable reception for off-reservation casinos if Obama wins the November 2012 election.
