The Catawba Nation of South Carolina is planning to open a large gaming facility on the reservation.
Plans call for a 220,000 square-foot facility, plus two hotels and retail outlets. Construction would begin next year and be completed in 2014.
News of the project came as the tribe filed a lawsuit against the state. The tribe believes a state law that authorized casino boats paves the way for gaming on the reservation.
"The lawsuit states we feel we are entitled to gaming on reservation lands," Chief Bill Harris told The Rock Hill Herald. "That's the avenue we are taking."
