County reaffirms support for North Fork Rancheria casino bid

The board of supervisors in Madera County, California, voted 4-1 to reaffirm their support for the off-reservation casino sought by the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians.

The county will send a letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), who questioned whether there was local support for the casino. Supervisors say the project will create jobs and contribute to the local economy.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the casino last September. Under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) can veto it.
