Holland & Knight wins state contract for tribal gaming talks

Holland & Knight, a law and lobbying firm with tribal gaming clients, has won a contract to help Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) with gaming compact negotiations.

The firm, whose 2011 clients included the National Indian Gaming Association and the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, could earn up to $500,000 for its work. Negotiations are due to take place before a July 31 deadline in the state's new gaming law.

The law also created the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to oversee and implement gaming in the state. Patrick appointed Stephen Crosby as chairman of the commission.

Holland & Knight hosted an "honoring" reception for Crosby last night, The Boston Herald reported.

Buffalo, Magnuson, Anderson & Hogen, an Indian-owned firm, also won a state contract worth up to $500,000.
