Tohono O'odham Nation casino argument will be a busy affair

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the Tohono O'odham Nation gaming case on April 16 and it looks like it's going to be a busy affair.

The parties include the tribe, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the city of Glendale, the state of Arizona, the Gila River Indian Community and group of Republican lawmakers. The court's calender notes that the 9th Circuit will be hearing appeals in four cases.

"We appreciate the court's decision to fast track the appeal," Chairman Ned Norris Jr. told The Glendale Star. "The Nation is confident of another favorable ruling and looks forward to creating thousands of jobs and positive economic opportunity in the West Valley."

At issue is a land claim settlement that requires the federal government to place land in trust for the tribe. So far, a federal judge has sided with the BIA and the tribe.
