Gun Lake Tribe celebrates first anniversary of gaming facility

The Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians of Michigan, also known as the Gun Lake Tribe, is celebrating the first anniversary of its casino.

The Gun Lake Casino opened to the public on February 10. The facility has proven to be a success, providing more than 800 jobs to the community and sharing more than $10.4 million with local governments.

“We’ve obviously never opened a casino in this market, so all we could do was test it and see who comes,” John Shagonaby, the chief executive officer of the tribe's gaming authority, told The Allegan County News. “We’re very happy with our performance.”
