City council backs Jemez Pueblo off-reservation casino plan

The city council in Las Cruces, New Mexico, voted to support the Jemez Pueblo off-reservation casino.

The tribe wants build a casino near Anthony, about 300 miles from the reservation. The site is not far from Las Cruces.

The Bush administration rejected the casino before the environmental review was complete. The Obama administration reopened the process but also rejected it due to distance and jurisdictional concerns.

"We don't believe we were given that time and they went and just closed the application process and didn't really allow us to give them our input," Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima told KFOX14.
