Connecticut governor talking with tribes on Internet gaming

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy (D) is talking with leaders of the two federally recognized tribes in the state about Internet gaming.

Malloy is worried about the legalization of online gaming throughout the U.S. That could have a negative effect on tribal casinos as well as the state Lottery.

"The tribes, the Lottery - we're all trying to figure this out together," Malloy told the editorial board of The New London Day.

The tribal-state compact promises the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation exclusivity for Class III games. In exchange, the tribes share 25 percent of their slot machine revenues with the state.

The Mohegan Tribe wants to get into Internet gaming, its chairman has said. The Pequots haven't stated their position.
