The new leader of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma said the tribe is developing a position on the casino proposed by the Kialegee Tribal Town.
Chief George Tiger was sworn into office on Saturday. His predecessor opposed the Kialegee casino.
"I will be addressing that in an official manner - maybe next week, maybe two weeks," Tiger told reporters who attended his inauguration, The Tulsa World reported.
The Kialegee Tribal Town already started work on the Red Clay Casino. The site is an Indian allotment held in trust for two members of the Muscogee Nation.
The casino would impact the Muscogee Nation's gaming enterprise. One of the tribe's facilities is located in nearby Tulsa.
Local residents and local officials are opposing the casino. So are some members of Oklahoma's Congressional delegation.
