City wants Kialegee Tribal Town to stop working on casino site

The city council in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, voted unanimously to tell the Kialegee Tribal Town to stop work on a casino on an Indian allotment.

The city's action carries no legal weight since the land is considered Indian Country. But the council is responding to growing local opposition to the proposed Red Clay Casino.

The allotment is owned by Marcella Giles and Wynema Capps, who are members of the Muscogee Nation. They are leasing it to the Kialegee Tribal Town for the casino.

The city wants the Muscogee Nation to intervene and block the casino.
