Commissioners in Muskegon County, Michigan, are pushing the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce to support an off-reservation casino for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.
The tribe is planning a major development at the site of a former racetrack. The project needs state and federal approval so local support is crucial.
“It's not dead by any means,” commissioner Jim Derezinski said at a meeting on Tuesday, The Muskegon Chronicle reported. “But they're not helping us keep it alive. We're talking lots of jobs, and this is the chamber.”
The chamber is developing a position on the casino, the board chairman said.
