Twin River, a non-Indian slot parlor in Rhode Island, is seeking to intervene in a lawsuit filed by the Narragansett Tribe.
The tribe is suing to block a new law that authorizes a statewide vote to turn Twin River into a full-fledged casino. The lawsuit says a question that will appear on the November 2012 ballot is vague and unconstitutional.
The tribe's own referendums for gaming have been rejected in the past. Most
recently, the courts have ruled that the proposals were unconstitutional because
they didn't give the state enough control over the casino.
The tribe says the Twin River referendum suffers from the same problems.
