Narragansett Tribe sues to stop non-Indian gaming referendum

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island filed a lawsuit to stop a referendum that would authorize a non-Indian casino.

The November 2012 referendum asks voters to approve a full-fledged casino at the Twin River slot parlor. The tribe's lawsuit says the proposal is "unconstitutional and vague," The Providence Journal reported.

The tribe's own referendums for gaming have been rejected in the past. Most recently, the courts have ruled that the proposals were unconstitutional because they didn't give the state enough control over the casino.

The tribe says the Twin River referendum suffers from the same problems.
