Eastern Cherokees seize 205 acres for potential gaming facility

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has seized 205 acres for a possible casino, The Cherokee Scout reports.

The tribal council voted 10-2 on July 14 to seize the land. It apparently belonged to a man who recently died.

“This woman had just buried her husband,” council member Teresa McCoy told the paper. The man was found dead on July 6.
