Seneca Nation reaffirms plans for Catskills off-reservation casino

The Seneca Nation still wants to build an off-reservation casino in the Catskills region of New York, tribal leaders said.

The tribe created a four-member committee to move plans forward. The tribe needs to find a new gaming partner and have land placed in trust for the casino.

"The Seneca Nation has a proven track record of operating successful gaming establishments and a Seneca Catskills casino would be a great addition to our existing facilities," council member Michael L. John said in a press release.

The tribe owns 63 acres in the town of Thompson. President Robert Odawi Porter said the casino could be built at the site or nearby.
