Winnebago Tribe searching for ways to reopen shuttered casino

The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is looking to reopen its casino in Iowa.

The tribe was forced to shut down the WinnaVegas Casino due to rising water from the Missouri River. Woodbury County shut down the only road to the facility.

The tribe is now asking the county to vacate the road. That would enable the tribe to take over, make repairs and possibly build a temporary bridge.

The tribe erected sandbags and a 9-foot-tall earthen berm around the casino, which has remained dry despite record levels of water from the river.
