California tribes seek to draw music lovers to their casinos

Two northern California tribes are becoming more competitive in the concert market with new venues at their casinos.

The United Auburn Indian Community opened an outdoor venue at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort last summer. It seats 3,500 people.

The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation responded by opening its own venue at the Cache Creek Casino Resort. The facility seats 3,000 people.

Both tribes are drawing acts that might have played the casinos in northern Nevada a few years ago. But they are also offering competition with each other -- particularly this weekend, when Thunder Valley booked Creedence Clearwater Revisited because booked John Fogerty.

"It is a competitive market out there," Thunder Valley spokesman Doug Elmets told The Sacramento Bee.
