The United Keetoowah Band of
Cherokee Indians of Oklahoma has submitted a land-into-trust application for its gaming site in Tahlequah.
The tribe operates the Keetoowah Cherokee Casino on about two acres. The site is within the former Cherokee Reservation but the National Indian Gaming Commission said it wasn't on "Indian land" in a decision this past July.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is now taking comments on the request.
The Cherokee Nation says it will object to the application.
The Obama administration recently approved a non-gaming land-into-trust application for the UKB.
