Laguna Development Corporation, the economic development arm of Laguna Pueblo, has submitted a bid to operate a casino at the New Mexico State Fair Grounds.
LDC is proposing a $30 million, 36,000-square-foot casino. Expo New Mexico, which operates the fair grounds, would receive $2 million in the first year of operation, $2.5 million in the second and $3 million for every year after that.
“Gaming is a major strength of our company and we have had tremendous success in the gaming industry for several years now," Skip Sayre, LDC's chief of sales and marketing, told The Cibola Beacon.
Only one other entity, the Downs at Albuquerque, submitted a bid for the casino. The Downs operates a race track at the fair grounds under a lease that expires in 2012.
