"The NCAA rule dictates that the Fighting Sioux logos must be removed. This no doubt will be at North Dakota taxpayers’ expense; but there is an easy solution that can be acted on in November:
The North Dakota Legislature is having a special session in November to consider letting UND proceed with changing the “Fighting Sioux” nickname.
During the special session, the Legislature also could pass enabling legislation that would let the Engelstad organization operate limited gaming casino operations in North Dakota. The state would get its share of the gaming, thereby providing funds to pay for the renovation expense.
Once the expense has been funded, all future revenues would be required to be used exclusively for the funding of education in North Dakota. Florida has private gaming, and the proceeds are used in this manner."
