NIGC is working closely with tribes to develop new regulations

The National Indian Gaming Commission is working closely with tribes to develop new regulations but a final product is more than a year away, Chairwoman Tracie Stevens said.

In August, NIGC established the Tribal Advisory Committee to review Minimum Internal Control Standards and Technical Standards. The group's first meeting will be held October 18-20 on the Poarch Creek Reservation in Alabama.

Additional meetings are scheduled from now until March 2012. That means potential regulations won't be ready until the end of 2012, Stevens said.

"We’re moving at a pretty good pace that includes tribes -- the most important thing for us is that tribes are included because making regulations from a desk in D.C. doesn’t always turn out well for people on the ground out in Indian country,” Stevens said at the Global Gaming Expo, Indian Country Today reported.
