The Massachusetts Senate is moving toward final approval of H.3702,
a bill to authorize up to three casinos and one slot machine parlor in the state.
The bill authorizes casinos in three regions. The casino in Region C -- the southeastern part of the state -- is reserved for "a federally recognized Indian tribe."
The provision has been interpreted to limit the state to one Class III gaming compact.
The Aquinnah Wampanoag
Tribe and the Mashpee Wampanoag
Tribe are both interested in a casino.
Debate will continue next Tuesday on the bill. The House already passed its version.
