An Idaho newspaper wants to know whether the Coeur d’Alene Tribe has complied with its Class III gaming compact.
The tribe is required to contribute five percent of net gaming profits to schools on or near the reservation. But The St. Maries Gazette Record said some school districts haven't received money since July 2009.
In hopes of finding out more, the paper asked the Idaho State Lottery for "all correspondence" with the tribe for fiscal year 2008 through 2011. The paper also sought "all information" related to the compact, going back to 1992.
The Lottery rejected the request, citing a nondisclosure provision in the compact. The paper plans to file a petition in state court to seek the information.
