Editorial: Support for Ute Tribe off-reservation casino in Colorado

"Native American gambling regulations dictate that a casino must be built on tribal land, meaning it would be excluded from town and county tax rolls.

Still, that doesn’t prevent Craig and Dinosaur from cashing in on casino patrons who visit other attractions or eat at a few restaurants in the area.

To those who say, “Not in my county,” the Editorial Board counters with this: You had your chance to support another option.

A proposed 6.9-percent Craig lodging tax would have supported area tourism had it not been rejected in the November 2010 election.

If residents here remain closed minded and continue to bat away opportunities for growth, potential moneymakers will keep passing Moffat County by, taking hopes of a stronger economy with them.

At that point, the people who complained the loudest will have no one to blame but themselves."
