A majority of voters in New York support an expansion of non-Indian gaming, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.
When asked whether New York should have casinos "similar to those in Atlantic City and Las Vegas," 56 percent said yes. And 64 percent say gaming is good for the economy.
However, a majority believe gaming comes at a social cost. According to the poll, 63 percent say more casinos will lead to an increase in gambling addiction.
Politicians in New York are considering an amendment to the state constitution to allow non-Indian casinos.
That would break exclusivity provisions in tribal-state compacts.
