The Obama administration will reconsider an off-reservation casino for the
Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, The Albany Times-Union reports.
The tribe, based in Wisconsin, wants to build a casino in the Catskills region of New York.
The Bush administration rejected the proposal in 2008.
But now that Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk has rescinded a policy that restricted off-reservation gaming, the
Bureau of Indian Affairs is taking another look at the proposal. Local leaders and politicians from New York support gaming in the Catskills.
