"Given the several years the matter has been a prime topic of discussion on Beacon Hill, the bill authorizing casino gambling in the Bay State released by the joint legislative Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies on Tuesday, couldn't have come as a surprise to anyone.

The legislation — allowing three casinos and one slots parlor in different parts of the state, with one reserved for a Native American tribe — appears to have the support of the executive branch and both parties within the House and Senate and should receive passage this fall.

While it certainly won't address all the state's fiscal woes, the measure will help Massachusetts recapture some of the revenue currently lost to the gambling palaces in the Connecticut woods, as well as create thousands of new jobs."
