Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy (D) visited the two tribal casinos in the state and stressed the importance of Indian gaming to the tourism industry.
Malloy met with leaders of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe. He wants to improve communication with the tribes, something he said was lacking with the prior administration.
“This is a great testament to the importance of the casinos,” Mashantucket Chairman Rodney Butler told The Norwich Bulletin. “We’re major employers, and a lot of our money goes to the state, although we don’t call them taxes. He has been very open with us and wants to work with us.”
The tribes contribute 25 percent of slot machine revenues to the state.
