Illegal "coin pushers" are showing up throughout California, The Valley Voice Newspaper reports.
Law enforcement authorities are finding the machines in convenience stores, smoke shops and other locations all over the state.
They are marketed as games of skill but the California Gambling Control Commission says they are illegal outside of tribal casinos.
The California Bureau of Gambling Control has issued an advisory to warn businesses not to install the machines.
