It looks like gaming is paying off big for the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Potawatomi Indians, also known as the Gun Lake Tribe.
The Gun Lake Casino opened in February. In just the first two months, slot machines generated enough revenues to share more than $2.5 million with the state and local governments.
"Many years ago, we made a commitment to our neighbors to provide funds to help build a better community,” Chairman D.K. Sprague said, The Grand Rapids Press reported. “Today, we have followed through on our commitment, and that marks another important milestone in our shared progress.”
The Class III gaming compact requires the tribe to share 2 percent of electronic gaming revenues with local government and between 8 percent and 12 percent with the state.
Based on the revenue sharing, the casino generated $26 million in the first two months alone, the paper reported.
